Hours of work: 30 hours per week (7.5 hours per day, Monday-Thursday)

REPORTS TO:
Works under the direction and supervision of the Childcare Worker and/or the School Principal.

SUMMARY:
The Childcare Assistant provides assistance in ensuring safety of the students and day-to-day operations of the center and follows the guidance and instruction of the Childcare Worker.

DUTIES:
The duties of this position are not limited to the listed components, but will encompass 80% of the assigned duties on a regular basis:

1. Assists with preparation of program-related materials and resources.
2. Uses computers and other specialized equipment to provide support.
3. Monitors students’ daily arrival, dismissal, and lunch/playground activities.
4. Accompanies students on outings within the community and transports students as required.
5. Will assist and/or provide personal and physical care as required.
6. Reports safety and discipline concerns to the Childcare Worker and/or Principal.
7. Follows the Junior Kindergarten’s daily routine.
8. Supervises all children while providing a safe, supportive, and nurturing environment.
9. Builds positive relationships with parents and communicates regularly with them.
10. Performs other assigned duties that are within the area of knowledge and skills required by the job description.

REQUIREMENTS:

1. Possess Level 1 Early Childhood Educator Certification or acquire Certification within 6 months of hire into this role.
2. Completion of grade 12 diploma or equivalent.
3. Technology and computer-related skills.
4. Excellent oral and written communication skills.
5. Ability to identify and solve problems.
6. Self-motivated, self-directed, and flexible.
7. Excellent organizational skills.
8. Ability to work with minimal supervision and as a team player.
9. Physical ability to perform the required duties.
