Job description

ERM Group is hiring a Mid-Level Consultant, Environmental Field Generalist in Yellowknife, NT, Canada. The role involves coordinating field programs, data analysis, and report writing related to hydrometric monitoring and aquatic studies. Candidates should have a BSc and 2-3 years of experience in field program management, particularly in remote locations. Strong data management and communication skills are essential. The position offers a Northern Allowance and emphasizes safety and collaboration in a diverse work environment.

The successful candidate will be competent with data collection and management and have experience with any of the following skillsets: hydrometric monitoring, aquatic studies and/or monitoring programs in streams, rivers, and lakes involving water quality and quantity, sediment quality, and biotic communities. The scientist/engineer will carry out data analysis, database management, and report writing.

This posting is for a motivated, career-minded person who enjoys remote fieldwork and working independently. Position would include a Northern Allowance for duration of employment in the Northwest Territories. Yellowknife is a remote city in northern Canada, renowned for access to the vast boreal landscape, dancing Aurora Borealis, and the midnight sun.

Responsibilities:

  1. Coordinate and implement field programs.
  2. Compile, manage, and analyze data.
  3. Draft technical reports, or sections of reports, including baseline studies, environmental monitoring, environmental permitting, and impact assessments.
  4. Office administration for a small office and gear inventory (example: Health and Safety oversight, gear maintenance and dispatching).

Qualifications and Desirable Skills:

  1. BSc in any scientific discipline.
  2. 2-3 years (3-5 years preferred) of experience organizing, managing, and executing field programs, including working in remote locations.
  3. Experience implementing field and data QAQC practices.
  4. Strong data management, graphical and statistical interpretation skills (using the open-source program R or similar is an asset).
  5. Excellent writing skills, communication skills, and time management skills.
  6. Knowledge of Federal, Provincial and Territorial regulations and guidelines is an asset.
  7. Ability to manage time and prioritize tasks to meet regulatory and client deadlines.
  8. Ability to travel, and work in remote locations under a variety of seasonal conditions.
  9. Strong commitment to safety, including following established Health & Safety protocols.
  10. Enjoys working collaboratively and positively within a team setting as well as working independently.
  11. Boating experience is considered an asset.
  12. Valid driver’s license and good driving record.
