What You Will Do

Provides mechanical engineering expertise associated with preparing conceptual and final mechanical engineering designs of building services including HVAC, plumbing, drainage, fire protection, high pressure piping, fluid storage and distribution systems, bus hoists, and subway ventilation systems for all types of transit and related facilities and structures. Under the occasional technical direction of the Senior Mechanical Engineer, the incumbent reviews the work of Engineering Technologists in preparing mechanical drawings and specifications, reviews the work of outside consultants, assists in the preparation of standard drawings, and performs construction support activities such as field reviews and shop drawing reviews. Takes professional responsibility for engineering and design work as required by the Professional Engineers of Ontario (PEO). What Qualifications Do You Bring?

  • Must be licensed as a Professional Engineer in the Province of Ontario, supported by a University Degree or College Diploma in Mechanical Engineering, combined with several years of related experience in a multi-disciplinary design environment where mechanical drawings and specifications are produced and result in built facilities and structures.
  • Possession of a valid Class “G” Driver’s license for the Province of Ontario and access to a vehicle.
  • In-depth knowledge of mechanical engineering principles, methods, and practices for the design and construction of surface and subway transit related buildings, facilities, and equipment.
  • Sound knowledge of heating, ventilation, air-conditioning, plumbing, drainage, high pressure piping, fire protection, and fleet servicing equipment, including and not limited to fluid distribution and storage tanks, hoisting/conveying equipment, and subway ventilation systems related to the underground tunnel and stations.
  • Comprehensive working knowledge of the applicable provincial and national codes, regulations, and standards that govern mechanical design for buildings, including but not limited to: Ontario’s Building Code (OBC), National Building Code (NBC), Occupational Health and Safety Act (OHSA), Ontario Fire Code (OFC), American Society of Heating, Refrigeration and Air Conditioning Engineers Inc. (ASHRAE), American Society of Plumbing Engineers (ASPE), American National Standards Institute (ANSI) / American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME), Canadian Standards Association (CSA), Electrical Safety Code ESA and TTC Design Standards.
  • Strong working knowledge of Bentley MicroStation or Autodesk AutoCAD, building heating and cooling analysis software, MS Office, and other relevant software applications related to the work.
