Career Opportunity

The Bus Maintenance and Shops department is hiring a Manager of Bus Maintenance for one of its city garages. This position offers an opportunity to develop leadership skills through rotational assignments, cross-training, and hands-on experience. The role involves overseeing maintenance activities for both unionized and non-unionized staff, making it ideal for individuals passionate about team leadership and operational excellence.

This position manages a 24-hour/day, 7 days'/week operation and is required to be on-call to deal with emergency situations outside normal working hours. The assigned work location will be determined by senior management.

What You Will Do

  1. Planning, directing, managing, staffing, and controlling the work activities of the bus maintenance garage.
  2. Ensuring that sufficient buses, non-revenue vehicles and equipment are available, in a safe and reliable condition.
  3. Overseeing operational efficiency, employee training, effective labour relations, workplace safety, regulatory compliance, and budgetary effectiveness.
  4. Directing and overseeing all aspects of the maintenance, repair, servicing and cleaning of buses, non-revenue vehicles and equipment.
  5. Ensuring employees are properly qualified and trained in work and safety procedures.
  6. Preparing financial budgets and relevant reports for up to the Commission level.
  7. Maintaining a professional relationship among unionized employees and staff.
  8. May be required to substitute for other Managers in Bus Maintenance.
  9. Participation in the TTC customer service Ambassador Program.
  10. Promoting a respectful work and service environment that supports diversity, inclusion, and is free from harassment and discrimination.

What Qualifications Do You Bring?
  1. Completion of a post-secondary college diploma or university degree in a related discipline (Engineering), or substantial experience in a management capacity in a unionized environment.
  2. Registration as a Professional Engineer in Ontario (P. Eng.) is considered an asset.
  3. Certification as a Truck & Coach Technician (310T), Automotive Service Technician (310S), or other related Trade Certification is considered an asset.
  4. Possession of a valid "CZ" Driver's License is an asset.
  5. Extensive knowledge of fleet maintenance management concepts and practices.
  6. Strong knowledge of relevant policies, procedures, and government regulations.
  7. Sound business judgement combined with excellent administrative, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
  8. Strong management and interpersonal skills.
  9. Well organized with excellent team building and leadership skills.
  10. Strong computer skills with familiarity of TTC computerized systems and relevant software programs.
